Veneer is a material used in dentistry that is placed over the teeth in order to improve the overall appearance of the smile. In the last decade especially, veneer’s have become extremely popular in the UK, leaving many people intrigued and wanting to find out more. Have a read on to find out about some of the biggest pro’s and con’s of having veneers fitted!

Pros

Improved Smile

The most obvious benefit of having veneers fitted is that it gives you the perfect smile. Instead of waiting months to see changes with other cosmetic treatments such as Invisalign, you are able to gain a Hollywood smile quickly. Veneer is a strong material, meaning there is little to no maintenance required, aside from your normal dental hygiene routine. Your new smile will of course lead to a massive confidence boost.

Mostly Stain Resistant

For the tea, coffee and red wine lovers out there, another benefit is porcelain veneers are mostly stain resistant. This means you won’t be required to have your veneers whitened. For people who usually have their teeth whitened, being able to let go of concerns about discolouration is a big pro.

Can Replace Enamel

Veneers can cover damaged enamel, making you forget it was ever there. Weak teeth can be replaced with strong, white veneers to finally give you your dream smile.

Cons

The Price

Veneers are not cheap. For composite veneers, you’d be looking at around £200-£400 per tooth. Composite veneers are the cheaper option, as they don’t tend to last as long and can be prone to staining. Porcelain veneers will last longer and are unlikely to get stained, but can cost between £500-£1000 per tooth. This becomes a staggering amount of money when looking at having your whole mouth fitted. Additionally, porcelain veneers only tend to last around 10 years, so you need to be prepared for a lifelong financial commitment.

Can Be Dangerous

When put in the wrong hands, having veneers fitted can be dangerous. The price that comes with having veneers fitted safely is off-putting for some people, resulting in them going abroad to have the treatment done. The cheaper prices are often available as the procedure is not done to the standard it should be. Additionally, if you have any issues, popping over to Turkey isn’t exactly something you can do easily. If you’re considering having veneers, do the sensible thing and go to a dentist Altrincham-based in order to have the procedure done by a specialist in a safe and professional environment.

It’s Not Reversible

When you have veneers fitted, the shape of your teeth is permanently changed in order to fit the veneer coverings. Your natural teeth are shaved down a significant amount in order to do this. It is vital that this is considered prior to having the treatment done, as although you can afford it at the time, it is essential that you have the funds available to have them redone every 10 years in the future.
